Tracking Risks and Mitigations

When the risk visualizer is open, for users that have the Risk Analyst option set in the User profile, there will be displayed a button to "Track Risk" or "Track Mitigation".

Tracking Risks

When these are clicked, information from that risk is copied into the main risk register that you are tracking on the Risk Management tab.

Here you can select whether to create a new risk, or just link it to an existing risk you have defined in the main risk registers. If you create a new risk, you can select a risk register for it to go into, or just type in the name of a new register if you want to add one.

The "Add All Mitigations" option will add all the mitigations in the article under that particular risk. This saves you from going to each mitigation and adding them manually. It's worth noting the information below about how mitigations are linked to articles, though.

Tracking Mitigations

If you click on a mitigation, you can also manually track that mitigation by adding it to an existing risk defined on the Risk Management tab. If you used Track Risk, you probably would use the "Add All mitigations" option and then wouldn't need to do this.

Again, here you select whether to create a new mitigation, or link to an existing mitigation.

In both cases, once they are linked you will see a "View Risk" and "View Mitigation" button instead of the Track buttons. These will take you directly to the data for that risk or mitigation on the Risk Management tab.

Also, once they are linked, the "live" data from those risks or mitigations will be presented in the risk visualizer, and not the information that was entered into the article.

Performance Linking

Keep in mind that by default the mitigations are linked to the article's performance. That means, if the article stops performing (eg. not enough views per month), the mitigation will automatically be disabled and the risk will once again become apparent. This will automatically be made visible in the risk visualizer.

You can learn more about performance linking here.
