The Risk Matrix

The Risk Matrix is the primary view you will see when you view a Risk Registry. The Risk matrix is a standard representation of current risks at an organization. All risks are displayed in a matrix, with greater probability risks on the right, less likely risks on the left, greater impact risks at the top and less impact risks on the bottom. This means that the highest risks appear on the top right, and the lowest risks appear on the bottom left.

The risk blocks are color coded, so that high risks are red, and low risks are green.

All risks are shown with their current mitigations applied. This means that the risk you see isn't the original risk, but the risk after mitigations have been applied (the "residual risk").

If a mitigation expires (or is expiring), then you will see the risk appear with its original risk.

This Risk Matrix is a useful visualization that you should monitor on a regular basis. It can help you quickly home-in on risks that need attention.
